Specialist Sports College Status

Tong High School is in its third phase of re-designation as a specialist sports college following a highly successful Ofsted in 2007. The Sports College status allows the school to obtain extra staff and resources to raise achievement across the whole school, ensure the specialist subjects of PE and Performing Arts are lead curriculum areas, fund a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities, support our partner schools and work with the local community. Already we have received numerous awards and accolades for our work, with the pinnacle a national award achieved at the 2007 sports college conference for our groundbreaking work in internationalism.

The sports college is led by the Director of Specialism, Steve Gates. The team consists of a lead sports assistant, Neil Holmes and four sports assistants: James Myers, Joe Groves, Adam Myers and Vicky Cudders. These are supported by an administrative officer Helen Midgley.

Tong is also the hub school of the South Bradford School Partnership, that serves the wider sport and physical education needs of the 45 schools in South Bradford. The partnership development manager is Claire Myers. Each secondary school has a school sports coordinator and each primary school has a primary liaison officer to develop the sport and PE in their respective school. At Tong the school sports coordinator is Jason Baddeley.
