Curriculum team vision and ethos

The humanities subjects are vital to any student’s education.  In our team we aim to:

  • Provide all our students with the opportunity to achieve their academic potential
  • Provide our students with a safe and stimulating learning environment which will enable them to succeed
  • Provide our students with an education that suits their learning needs
  • Provide our students with a wider understanding of who they are and how they relate to rest of the world
  • Provide our students with the ability to understand  and question the issues facing them in today’s society
  • Provide our students with the skills necessary to become lifelong learners

What we offer

The department offers an innovative curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of our pupils.

In year 8 a mini-foundation programme is offered, Step Up where pupils are taught History, Geography and Religious Studies with one of the Humanities teachers.

In year 9 pupils study topics such as Climate Change, The First World War and learn about key religious issues.

At KS4 all pupils take the compulsory Religious Studies unit and have the option of selecting GCSE History SHP, GCSE Geography or GCSE Humanities.

The department is in the process of launching a range of post 16 Humanities courses.
