We believe that learning a foreign language can enhance your life immeasurably.

Not only do you acquire a wide spectrum of transferable skills but opportunities arise for those who speak another language, such as working abroad.

Each year, the department employs a French and Spanish Foreign Language Assistant who work with small groups of students to improve their spoken skills.

We aim :

• To develop the ability to use a foreign language effectively for the purposes of practical information.
• To teach pupils to understand the spoken foreign language at a level appropriate to their ability.
• To encourage and heighten the pupils’ awareness of the structure of language both native and foreign.
• To foster attitudes of tolerance and understanding and develop worldwide awareness.
• To develop inter-personal and communication skills through pair work, group work and co-operation within the whole class situation.
